The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, home of the Spanish Grand Prix, will have a new layout for this year's contest, the eighth round of the season. The circuit will also have updated paddock facilities and new safety elements.
The track outside of Barcelona first hosted the Spanish Grand Prix in 1991, when Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell faced off for championship supremacy. Since then, it has undergone several modifications.
Before the last corner in Barcelona, a chicane was added in 2007. This year, the chicane—which is currently Turning 14—will be removed to restore the section to its original form.
The last two high-speed corners will have new TECPRO barriers, and the official track length for the Spanish Grand Prix will be 4.657 kilometers, which is 18 meters shorter than the previous course.
For 2023, the scoreboard at the pit lane exit will undergo renovations that include installing a "more modern" signaling tower, painting the curbs and tire barriers, and repairing the curbs.
The long pit building along the main straight will also have its hospitality and corporate sections expanded and modernized, while the fan areas' permanent restrooms will receive a makeover in time for the June 2-4, 2023 Spanish Grand Prix.
